M6 World Championship: Swiss Stage format, tournament dates revealed!

KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA, 14 October – The M6 World Championship announced today the tournament format and key dates for the most prestigious Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) esports tournament to be hosted in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The 6th edition of the M Series returns with the theme #GreaterThanEver to signify its upgraded tournament level with its increased prize pool and new tournament format and convey the participating teams' stories as they strive for greatness and clinch the highest honors in the world of MLBB’s professional gaming scene. 

The Road to M6 World Championship

The M6 commences with the Wild Card Stage from 21-24 November 2024, intending to empower rising regions with more opportunities to showcase their gaming prowess. The Wild Card Stage will see eight teams divided into two groups, where they will compete in a single round-robin comprising best-of-three (BO3) matches. 

The top team of each group will advance to the second phase of the Wild Card Stage. The other six teams will be eliminated. Each group's top team will play a BO5 match, wherein the winner will advance to the Main Stage of the M6 World Championship. 

Wild Card Stage matches scheduled for 21-23 November start at 14:00 (GMT+8). On the other hand, the second phase is scheduled for 24 November and starts at 17:00 (GMT+8). 

Greater than Ever Tournament Format

For the first time in M Series history, the Main Stage will be in Swiss Format which requires group draws after each round. Starting 28 November 2024, the Swiss Stage will see 16 teams play five stages. 

Eight teams to get three match wins will advance to the Knockout Stage, and the other eight teams that will get three match losses will be eliminated. Learn more about the Swiss Format via the explainer video here.

The Knockout Stage will be in a double-elimination format. The first round is in a BO3 match series and will happen on 7 December 2024. The second round will be in BO5 format and will run from 8-14 December 2024. The Grand Finals Day, in a BO7 match format, takes place on 15 December 2024, at 17:00 (GMT +8). 

The M6 World Championship aims to showcase the pinnacle of professional MLBB gaming. This year, the global tournament features 16 international teams vying to take home the biggest share of the increased prize pool worth USD 1 million. 

Its first iteration, the M1 World Championship, was held in 2019 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and since then, the M Series tournament has become one of the world's most popular esports events ever, with the M5 World Championship attracting 5.06M Peak Viewers, according to Esports Charts.
