MOONTON Games scored big at the 2024 GamingonPhone Awards yesterday (6 December). The international developer and publisher's hit mobile game, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB), was named the Mobile Esports Game of the Year, while MLBB team, Selangor Red Giants, secured the Mobile Esports Team of the Year. MOONTON Games' PR Team also snagged the Best PR/Marketing Team. The annual GamingonPhone Awards aims to recognize excellence in mobile gaming across 30 categories and honor the industry’s commitment to excellence.
MLBB, which recently hit 1.5 billion registered players, won the Mobile Esports Game of the Year award for its "exceptional competitive gameplay, community engagement, and impact on the esports scene." This is the third time MLBB has received this award after clinching the Esports Game of the Year Award in 2021 and 2023.
MLBB is the world's most popular esports title. In 2023, the game recorded 530 million hours watched and a peak concurrent viewership of 5 million, far and away the highest of any mobile game, according to esports viewership analytics platform, Esports Charts. MLBB's flagship esports event, the M6 World Championship, is currently ongoing in Malaysia.
The MOONTON Games PR team was recognized as the Best PR/Marketing Team for "demonstrating exceptional creativity, strategy, and impact in elevating a brand or campaign in 2024."
MLBB Esports team Selangor Red Giants from Malaysia won the Mobile Esports Team of the Year award, beating out fellow nominee, Fnatic ONIC Philippines, for their "exceptional achievements and contributions to the esports scene in 2024."
SRG won the MLBB Mid Season Cup (MSC) 2024 last July in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia – a historic win that marked Malaysia's first time to secure the top honors at a major MLBB esports tournament. They are also on course to complete the Golden Road at the M6 World Championship, having won Seasons 13 and 14 of MPL Malaysia.
Ray Ng, Head of Esports Ecosystem at MOONTON Games said, “Winning the Esports Game of the Year award for the third time recognizes our commitment to bringing great esports experiences for our passionate fans. As the leader in the global mobile esports scene, we work hard with our ecosystem partners to ensure that mobile esports can continue to foster an inclusive and sustainable path. For one, we’re excited to be among the medal events and the only mobile esports title in the upcoming Southeast Asian Games 2025, with MLBB being the only title to hold a tournament for women. We also have an exciting esports calendar for next year and we are thrilled to unveil them soon."
“We are grateful to the community for their immense support, and GamingonPhone for also recognizing the efforts of our marketing and PR team.”
MLBB was nominated for the "Mobile Game Community of the Year" and "Mobile Game Update of the Year" categories, while Sam Slade, the voice artist behind Zhuxin, was a finalist for the "Best Voice Acting in Mobile Game" award.
