ONIC defeated longtime rivals RRQ Hoshi (RRQ) to secure the championship title at the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Professional League (MPL) Indonesia Season 15 Grand Finals. With this victory, ONIC earns the honour of leading Indonesia in the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Mid Season Cup (MSC) at 2025 Esports World Cup (EWC) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

The victory continues Indonesia's legacy of fielding world-class Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) squads on the international stage. Both ONIC and RRQ now advance to the MSC group stage, kicking off on 30 July, where they will compete for the USD 3 million prize pool, setting the stage for high-stakes competition amongst the world's best MLBB teams.

One Game, Two Champions: Indonesia Marches on to the World Stage

ONIC and RRQ now turn their focus to MSC at EWC 25, where they will face 15 of the world's strongest regions in a revamped format designed to test even the most seasoned champions. It will be their most unpredictable journey yet as they #EncounterTheUnknown to carry Indonesia’s hopes to reclaim its place among MLBB’s elite. They will be joined by Indonesia's top women's esports athletes in Riyadh who will be heading to the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Women's Invitational (MWI) at the 2025 EWC, the world's premier women's mobile esports tournament, where they will showcase their #Limitless potential.

The Esports World Cup will host two of MLBB's most prestigious international competitions: MSC at EWC 25, where ONIC and RRQ will challenge champions from a record-breaking 16 participating regions; and MWI at EWC 25, where the nation’s top women's rosters from Team Vitality and ONIC Pertiwi will compete in the tournament's biggest edition yet, featuring a record 16 teams from 57 qualifying regions.

MWI at EWC 25 will feature a USD 500,000 prize pool—one of the largest in women's esports history. Set on the world's largest multi-title esports stage, the tournament spotlights MLBB esports as a platform that champions inclusivity and empowers women esports athletes on the global stage.

In a format designed to crown two world champions under one game title, Indonesia's representation at both events embodies a singular national ambition: to make history twice.

Indonesia's Minister of Youth and Sports, Ario Bimo Nandito Ariotedjo, attended the MPL Indonesia Season 15 Grand Finals in a strong display of national support for the country’s esports ecosystem. The Minister presented the medals to the winning team and extended his best wishes as they prepare to represent Indonesia at EWC 25 in Riyadh. His presence underscored the government's growing recognition of esports as a pillar of youth development and digital innovation, and reinforced its commitment to empowering Indonesian talent on the global stage.

"Congratulations to team ONIC! Both times I attended the matches at Velodrome, the winner has been the same. I'd also like to extend my congratulations to RRQ. These two teams will be heading to the Esports World Cup (EWC) in Riyadh, let’s hope they can bring home another championship title" said Ario Bimo Nandito Ariotedjo, Minister of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Indonesia. "I could really feel the atmosphere and the energy from the crowd felt just like what you'd expect from our local fans. The Velodrome was packed, and the outdoor area was so full they had to set up a giant LED screen for the watch party. It felt no different from watching a basketball, football, or badminton final."

MPL Indonesia Season 15 reaffirmed its position as the pinnacle of mobile esports leagues, with its Grand Finals drawing a record-breaking 4.1 million peak concurrent viewers across platforms, according to Esports Charts. The figure marks the highest in MPL Indonesia history and one of the top viewership milestones across the global MLBB circuit and esports leagues. The unprecedented achievement underscore not only the league’s unmatched competitiveness but also the deep-rooted connection between MLBB and the Indonesian community.

This season’s Grand Finals once again delivered a Royal Derby, the iconic clash between ONIC and RRQ Hoshi — rekindling one of the fiercest rivalries in MPL Indonesia history. It was their fourth showdown on the Grand Finals stage, with past encounters in Seasons 8, 9, and 10. ONIC currently holds the upper hand with two victories, while RRQ claimed their sole win in Season 9. This time, ONIC returned with a familiar core lineup, while RRQ brought a fresh roster, one that ONIC had never faced before in a Grand Finals setting, adding a new twist to this legendary matchup.

This time, ONIC emerged victorious once again in emphatic fashion. The reigning champions stormed through the Playoffs with commanding performances, culminating in a nail-biting seven-game Grand Final against their long time rivals. In a clash that saw momentum swing back and forth, ONIC held their nerve to close out the series 4–3, securing their seventh MPL Indonesia title, the most in league history.

With this win, ONIC not only extends their edge in one of MLBB’s most storied rivalries, but also cements their era of dominance in Indonesian MLBB. As they prepare to lead the nation at MSC 2025, ONIC’s blend of experience, synergy, and championship pedigree makes them one of the most formidable contenders heading to Riyadh.

EWC 2025: The road to Riyadh begins now Elsewhere in Southeast Asia, Malaysia's Selangor Red Giants secured a historic third consecutive MPL Malaysia title, further asserting their dynasty in the region. Over in the Philippines, Team Liquid Philippines completed a stunning lower bracket run to win the 15th season of MPL Philippines, a league long regarded as one of the most competitive in the world.

Since the inaugural Mid Season Cup in 2017, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Malaysia have consistently stood at the summit of the MLBB world. The fierce rivalry between these three nations has defined the MSC stage, with Indonesia and the Philippines frequently trading titles and setting the gold standard for international play.

However, Indonesia’s dominance was disrupted in MSC 2024, where its representative fell short of expectations — bowing out in the group stage without reaching the playoffs. As ONIC and RRQ prepare to enter MSC 2025, the mission is clear: to restore Indonesia’s status as a global powerhouse and reignite the regional rivalry on their own terms.

The qualifying Indonesian teams will march towards the nation’s dual pursuit of international esports excellence across both men’s and women’s divisions. As they lead the charge towards this historic event, they carry the hopes of a nation on their shoulders and prove that they are more than just players — they are national icons ready to show the strength, passion, and pride of Indonesian MLBB on the world stage.
