The Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Academy League Malaysia (MAL MY) returns to the spotlight with the Season 3 Playoffs. Taking place offline at Quill City Mall in Kuala Lumpur from 26 to 29 June, the Playoffs will see the top 10 Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) teams from the Regular Season clash for the USD 20,000 (~MYR 85,769) prize pool. The six remaining Challenger Conference teams will also battle for promotion to the biggest competitive stage in Malaysia—MLBB Professional League (MPL) Malaysia.
Launched in January 2024 by MOONTON Games and IO Esports, MAL MY serves as the bridge between Malaysia's grassroots and national-level esports. The league aims to build the esports talent pipeline in the nation by providing young players with a more structured entry into the world of professional esports. It prepares local talent to one day carry Malaysia's flag at international tournaments such as the MLBB Mid Season Cup (MSC) and MLBB Women's Invitational (MWI) at 2025 Esports World Cup (EWC).
Who Can Overcome The "Final Boss", CG Esports?
All eyes are on CG Esports, the undisputed frontrunner of MAL MY and the team many consider the "final boss" to secure a ticket to MPL Malaysia Season 16. CG Esports dominated the MAL MY Season 3 Regular Season with a single match loss; they now have their sights on sealing their MPL promotion in the high-stakes Playoffs gauntlet.
CG Esports sport two of MLBB Esports Malaysia's most experienced players in Muhammad Danial "Cikugais" Mohamad Fuad and Muhammad Syafizan Najmi "Garyy" Kamarulzaman. Cikugais is one of the most decorated players in MLBB Esports Malaysia history, being only one of three players to have participated in the first four M Series (M1 to M4), MOONTON Games' flagship international MLBB tournament. Garyy is one of the most expensive transfers in MPL Malaysia history (at MYR 100,000).
Another strong contender is GamesMY Kelantan, who narrowly missed MPL Malaysia promotion last season, but enters the Playoffs in second place, behind CG Esports. With their momentum and hunger to break through, they’ll be aiming to upset the tournament favourites and book their place in MPL Malaysia Season 16.
Wu Zetian Debuts Outside Of China
Adding to the excitement is the competitive debut of Wu Zetian, MLBB's newest hero and a likely game-changer in the current meta. Season 3 of MAL MY will mark the first tournament in Southeast Asia to offer Wu Zetian as a potential pick; fans will be eager to see how Malaysia's top talent will harness her potential.
Cikugais said: "Her long-range magic poke, oppressive lane control, and powerful ultimate make her a true game-changer in the MLBB playoffs meta."
This season, MAL MY introduces a revamped promotion format, intensifying the path to MPL Malaysia. The top Challenger team will be directly promoted after winning the Challenger Upper Bracket Final, while the losing team still has a second shot through the Challenger Stage against current MPL team JP Niners.
Join us at Quill City Mall from 26 to 29 June to witness the next generation of Malaysian MLBB stars battle for their shot at the big leagues.
MAL MY is supported by the Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS), Esports Integrated (ESI), Rakan Muda, and the Malaysia Esports Federation (MESF).
