Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) is entering a bold new phase of global expansion as it officially launches the MLBB Super League (MSL) Thailand and unveils the 2026 MLBB Thailand Esports Roadmap. Held at Chatrium Riverside Bangkok, the launch event formally marked Thailand's reintegration into MLBB's global esports ecosystem, as part of the game's five-region ecosystem overhaul strategy.

Within this global strategy, Thailand is quickly establishing itself as a leading example of how local ecosystems can be strengthened to compete globally. Long known for its deep gaming passion and competitive potential, the country is now entering a new phase of growth, driven by deeper investment, strategic partnerships, and the launch of a structured professional league, positioning Thailand for its next era on the global gaming and esports stage.

Time To Rise: The Awakening of the Esports Giants

This shift is being supported through broader game publishing investments and localised community initiatives designed to build long-term engagement in the market. This year also marks the 10th anniversary of MLBB, MOONTON Games' flagship title that has delivered exciting gaming experiences to players worldwide.

Wei Guo, Head of Game Publishing, Thailand, at MOONTON Games, said: "Our mission is to bring thrilling games to players. Based on this core mission, we have started investing in Thailand since the second half of 2024, and realized that MLBB can bring new experiences to Thailand, as also proven by the game topping the game charts on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store in October last year."

Wei revealed that MLBB received a lot of positive feedback from the Thai community, not just from players but also from local content creators and local partners like teams, which signaled the right time for MLBB to invest in Thailand. In October last year, MLBB dominated all gaming charts, reflecting the widespread popularity and high levels of player engagement across the country.

This momentum has also been echoed by GuyNgid, popular gaming creator and now MLBB Thailand's strategy partner, who continues to play an important role in connecting MLBB with local gaming communities.

MLBB Thailand will have exciting activities for the gaming community, including the global IP collaborations and annual events such as the 10th anniversary celebration and the Golden Month campaign.

Beyond community growth, the launch of MSL Thailand marks a major step in integrating the country into MLBB's global esports ecosystem.

During the launch event, Hao Zhen Siew, Head of MLBB Esports, Thailand, at MOONTON Games, unveiled the MSL Thailand roadmap, outlining the league's integration into MLBB's global competitive calendar, including MLBB's tournaments at the Esports World Cup (EWC) 2026 and the M World Championship. As part of this global pathway, Thailand has also been announced as the host of the M8 World Championship Wild Card Stage.

Hao Zhen noted that this major step directly addresses the gaps previously identified in MLBB in Thailand. "What was missing over time were structural links that allow talent to sustain and scale. We identified three key gaps: a consistent professional league that teams could plan around, clear long-term pathways for players and staff, and a stable connection to MLBB's global competitive esports calendar. MSL Thailand addresses these gaps by providing continuity, professionalism, and direct integration into the global ecosystem, which is why now is the right time."

"Bridging the gap is about systems and sustainability, not just individual results," Hao Zhen added. "Closer integration with international competition also gives Thai teams consistent benchmarks to measure progress and adapt."

To support the long-term development of the ecosystem, the league is introducing THB 10 million in incentives for the teams tied to the prize pool and team and community development initiatives per season. This approach encourages teams to invest in building their fanbase, strengthening their brand, and engaging more deeply with the community—key pillars in establishing a sustainable and professionally driven esports league in Thailand.

Thailand's competitive pathway in MLBB is designed to elevate local talent and connect the country's best teams to the regional and global esports stage. In the first half of the year, the champion of MSL Thailand will earn a place at the MLBB Mid Season Cup (MSC) at the Esports World Cup 2026, beginning their journey at the MSC Wild Card Stage. The second-place team will compete in the MLBB Challenge Cup Mekong (MCCM) alongside teams from Vietnam, Timor-Leste, Laos, and Brunei, where the champion will also secure a coveted slot in the MSC Wild Card at EWC26—bringing Southeast Asia's rising contenders one step closer to the global spotlight.

The event also unveiled a new pathway for aspiring female Thai athletes with the launch of the MLBB Women's International (MWI) Thailand Qualifiers, which will determine the country's representative for the MWI at the Esports World Cup 2026. The winning team will first compete in the MCCM qualifiers, with the opportunity to advance to the MWI Main Stage at EWC, giving Thailand's women esports athletes the chance to compete among the world's best.

Beyond domestic competition, Thailand's journey to the global MLBB esports stage will be further strengthened through the MLBB Championship Tour (MCT): Southeast Asia (SEA), the region's official championship and qualification pathway to the M World Championship, including M8. Together, these pathways create a clear and inspiring route for Thai teams and players—from local leagues to the world's biggest esports arenas.

Tiger Xu, Global Head of MLBB Esports at MOONTON Games, said: "MSL Thailand represents more than just the launch of a league—it is the foundation of Thailand's integration into MLBB's global competitive ecosystem. Through the MCT: SEA Tour, Thai teams now have a clear pathway from local competition to the world stage. This structure ensures that Southeast Asia's strongest teams earn their place internationally, and we believe Thailand will play an important role in shaping the next chapter of MLBB esports."

A new foundation for Thailand's esports ambitions

The launch of MSL Thailand has been welcomed by team owners and industry stakeholders as a long-awaited step toward building a sustainable esports ecosystem in the country. For many organizations, the league represents more than just a competition. It establishes the structure, stability, and global connections needed for Thai teams and players to compete at the highest level of MLBB esports.

Sattawat Intrayut, Team Owner of King of Gamers Club, described the league as a breakthrough moment for the local MOBA scene. "In the mobile MOBA industry in Thailand, we haven't had a global-scale game like this before. Phongpanod Rueangarrirat, Co-owner and player of King of Gamers Club, added: "Our country has a strong esports industry, and with MLBB, we can do something great. I hope people see us at M8 and international competitions as well."

MSL Thailand has been designed as a long-term platform, not just a competitive season. The league introduces structure, competition windows, and alignment with global standards, giving organizations the confidence to build sustainable esports operations. MOONTON Games announced that Thailand will host the M8 World Championship Wild Card Stage, a huge step forward for Thailand's MLBB, and a testament to the country's integration into the wider global ecosystem.

For Chotchanok Chidchob, Team Owner of Buriram United Esports, the value lies in opportunity and structure. "The main thing is the pathway. There are more opportunities for Thai esports athletes to follow their dreams and eventually reach global events. Thailand is ready to take this opportunity, and now there's finally a league that leads to a world-class championship."

Infinix, a global smartphone brand known for delivering cutting-edge technology to young consumers, joins MSL Thailand as an official partner, reinforcing its commitment to supporting mobile gaming and esports communities. Richman Shop, Thailand's top digital gaming top-up platform serving gamers locally and across international markets, also joins as a brand partner. As Thailand strengthens its place within the global MLBB ecosystem, the focus is no longer just on catching up, but on building a sustainable ecosystem. If the foundation holds, Thailand's next era in MLBB esports may not just be about returning to the world stage, but redefining its place on it.
