Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Professional League (MPL) Malaysia Season 17 has drawn to a close with Selangor Red Giants (SRG) becoming the first team in the region to achieve a five-peat in MPL history. The unprecedented achievement cements SRG's dynasty atop Malaysian esports, sealed with a dominant 4-0 victory over Team Vamos (VMS) before a capacity crowd at Stadium Juara, Kuala Lumpur. It all unfolded on the CelcomDigi Dream Stage—the pinnacle of MPL Malaysia and the destination every aspiring esports athlete ultimately strives to reach. Both SRG and VMS now carry Malaysia's flag to the MLBB Mid Season Cup (MSC) at the Esports World Cup (EWC) 2026 in Paris, where they will represent the nation on the global stage.
MPL Malaysia Season 17 recorded strong viewership growth, logging 25,875,943 hours watched, 740,146 Peak Concurrent Viewers (PCV), and an average of 148,713 concurrent viewers, according to Esports Charts. Compared to Season 16, total hours watched nearly doubled, while PCV and average viewership grew by over 23% and 56.82% respectively—underscoring the league's continued growth as one of Southeast Asia's most-watched esports properties. The five-day event drew a sold-out crowd of over 12,000 spectators, comprising ticketed attendees and visitors to the first-edition MPL Malaysia Festival, presented by EsportsCon, held in collaboration with Esports Integrated (ESI) and the Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS).
Season 17 also marks a defining milestone as the first season under the Partnership Programme, MPL Malaysia's long-term competitive foundation anchored by eight partner teams. Together, the Partnership Programme and the CelcomDigi Dream Stage shape the league's next phase of evolution, with the Dream Stage as the summit of competition and a cultural moment that unites esports, entertainment, and youth culture.

The Playoffs drew strong institutional recognition, with senior government leaders in attendance, including YB Adam Adli bin Abd Halim, Deputy Minister of Higher Education, and YB Danial Al-Rashid Bin Haron Aminar, Member of the Selangor State Legislative Assembly.
YB Adam Adli bin Abd Halim, Deputy Minister of Higher Education, shared: "A key opportunity I hope we can act on very soon is bridging what the esports industry needs and what is being taught across our higher education institutions—both public and private. As esports continues to grow, it is vital that our graduates are equipped with the skills and exposure that the sector demands. Through programmes such as Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and Sukan Institusi Pendidikan Tinggi (SUKIPT), we can actively connect industry leaders like MOONTON Games to co-develop learning pathways that not only elevate the standard of esports education in Malaysia, but produce graduates who are industry-ready."
The Grand Finals was graced by YB Mordi anak Bimol, Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, whose attendance reaffirmed the government's commitment to esports as a cornerstone of Malaysia's digital and youth agenda.
YB Mordi anak Bimol, Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, said: "Congratulations to MPL Malaysia, MOONTON Games, and Esports Integrated on the success of MPL Malaysia Season 17 Playoffs and Festival by EsportsCon. This is my first time here, and I must say—I am genuinely amazed. With over 12,000 attendees across five days, this is a remarkable example of how a professional esports competition can be participant-driven, bringing together players, fans, community, and family into one inclusive experience. MLBB has become deeply embedded in the social and cultural fabric of Malaysian youth, where esports is not only competition but also a space to learn teamwork, communication, leadership, resilience, and excellence.
MLBB is also rapidly expanding globally, and with MSC and MWI bringing its biggest events to Europe, this is Malaysia's time to show its might in a new region. For the first time, MLBB will be a medal event at the 2026 Asian Games—our athletes will carry the Jalur Gemilang (Malaysia's national flag) alongside Malaysia's traditional sporting heroes. At KBS, we remain committed to supporting platforms like MPL Malaysia and EsportsCon, ensuring that they continue to serve as a medium to bring esports closer to the community, raise public awareness of its potential, and create space for new talents to grow and flourish."
CelcomDigi Dream Stage: Where Malaysia's best converge
The CelcomDigi Dream Stage made its debut at the Season 17 Grand Finals as the stage where Malaysia's best compete and its brightest talents from across youth culture converge in one defining moment. As a long-standing partner of MPL Malaysia, CelcomDigi has been listening closely to what esports fans want this year. The CelcomDigi Dream Stage brings their wishes to life, reflecting a shared commitment to the future of Malaysian esports and youth culture. It represents the culmination of each season, a national moment where Malaysia's top esports teams compete for the championship and the honour of representing the country on the global stage. It brings together the best of gaming, music, and sport on a single platform, where the country's brightest talents take centre stage.
Chan May Ling, CelcomDigi's Head of Brand and Marketing Services, said: “The CelcomDigi Dream Stage marks an exciting step forward for esports in Malaysia. Together with MPL Malaysia, we heard the fan community loud and clear, and this is what they have been asking for. As Malaysia's largest mobile network operator, we are uniquely positioned to bring together connectivity, talent, and creativity to deliver compelling experiences to audiences across the country. By working closely with MPL Malaysia, we are building a stage where our best talents in gaming, sports, and music can come together to shine, giving the fans exactly what they want while inspiring the next generation."

Headlining the inaugural edition was Malaysia's Queen of Rock, Ella—one of the country's most enduring entertainment figures with a career spanning three decades. Her appearance was a moment that transcended esports, bringing together competition, culture, and national pride on a single stage for a new generation of digital-first audiences. The Dream Stage also served as the official send-off for Malaysia's MLBB national representatives heading to the MSC, MLBB Women's International (MWI), and the Asian Games. A highlight was the introduction of this year's MWI Malaysia representatives, who carry high expectations onto the international stage following Malaysia's women's contingent securing gold at the 33rd Southeast Asian (SEA) Games—reinforcing MPL Malaysia's role as a national talent pipeline.
Adding to the evening was Malaysia's national netball captain Nurfariha Abdul Razak (Fariha), whose presence alongside MPL Malaysia's professional athletes spoke to the Dream Stage's broader vision, where esports and traditional sports stand as equal expressions of Malaysian excellence. The first-ever MPL Malaysia Festival, presented by EsportsCon, brought together fans and the broader esports community across five days. The ESI Esports Exchange Panel and the Rakita GG Podcaster Search sparked industry conversations and spotlighted the next generation of esports voices. Beyond the stage, a curated Food Village, team parades, meet-and-greet sessions, and a giant-screen watch party extended the fan experience beyond the Playoffs into a cultural moment for Malaysian esports.
