M8 World Championship to set sail from Bangkok to Istanbul—tournament format, venue, and ticketing unveiled for historic Europe debut!

M8

The journey to crown Mobile Legends: Bang Bang's (MLBB) next world champions is set! International video gaming company, MOONTON Games, has unveiled the tournament format, venue, and ticketing details for the M8 World Championship (M8). For the first time, MLBB's flagship international tournament will chart a course across two continents—from Bangkok, Thailand, to Istanbul, Türkiye, for its historic European debut.

A record 10 Wild Card teams will make "One Last Stand" in Bangkok for three Main Stage spots in Istanbul. The qualified teams will complete a 16-team Main Stage field battling to "Stand Above the World," with the championship title and the US$1 million prize pool at stake. With an expanded qualification pathway and its first European destination, the M8's European voyage marks the next chapter in MLBB Esports' globalisation. Fans can catch the action live in Istanbul, with the Knockout Stage at ESA Espor Arena and the Grand Finals at Ora Arena. Tickets start from just ₺150 (US$3) and can be purchased here.

Setting sail for world glory

The top two teams from MCT Southeast Asia (SEA) and the champions of MCT East Asia (EA) and MCT Americas (AMER) will qualify directly for the Main Stage in Istanbul. MCT SEA's third- and fourth-placed teams, MCT EA's second- and third-placed teams, and the MCT AMER runner-up will advance to the M8 Wild Card in Bangkok. Alongside qualifiers from other regional leagues, they will form a record 10-team field competing for three Main Stage spots, up from the eight teams that competed for two spots at the M7 World Championship (M7) Wild Card. Each team that qualifies for the Main Stage will receive an M8 Golden Ticket. Inspired by a ship's boarding pass, it symbolises their passage to Istanbul and their chance to compete for MLBB Esports' highest honour.

The M8 Wild Card teams will make "One Last Stand" in Bangkok to earn their Golden Ticket. The stage unfolds across two phases. In Phase 1, 10 teams will be divided into two groups of five, playing in a single round-robin, Best-of-One (BO1) format. The top team from each group will advance directly to the Main Stage. The second- and third-placed teams will progress to Phase 2, where they will compete in a cross-group, BO5 single-elimination bracket for the final Main Stage spot.

The voyage continues to Istanbul, where 16 of the world's best MLBB teams will battle to "Stand Above the World." Their first test is the Swiss Stage. Across five rounds, teams need three wins to advance, while three losses will end their journey. Only eight teams will stay on course for the championship title.

The final eight must then navigate a double-elimination Knockout Stage, beginning with BO3 matches. Subsequent matches will follow a BO5 format, culminating in the BO7 Grand Finals. The last two teams will battle for the title and a share of the US$1 million prize pool. The showdown will make M Series history as its world champions are crowned on European soil for the first time.

A decade of MLBB, new horizons ahead

The M8 comes as MLBB celebrates its 10th anniversary this year. Since its launch in 2016, MLBB has grown into one of the world's most popular mobile games, recording over 1.5 billion installations and 110 million Monthly Active Users (MAU) worldwide. Earlier this January, the M7 recorded over 5.68 million Peak Concurrent Viewers (PCV) to become the world's most popular mobile esports tournament, according to Esports Charts.

Tiger Xu, Global Head of MLBB Esports at MOONTON Games, said: "As we celebrate MLBB's tenth anniversary, we are setting our sights on an even bigger next decade. Bringing the M Series to Europe is an important step in building on our strength in Asia and expanding MOONTON Games' global presence. We see an opportunity for new markets to become lasting centres of MLBB Esports, with their own communities, competitive ambitions, and investment. The M8 is part of that long-term commitment to growing the sport and giving more regions a role in shaping its future."

The title also recently made its debut as an official medal event at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, marking another milestone in its journey from a mobile game into a global esports phenomenon. Its international presence grew further with the European debuts of the MLBB Mid Season Cup (MSC) and MLBB Women's International (MWI) in Paris.
