The Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) Professional League (MPL) Indonesia returns this week for Season 16, the nation's most pivotal season yet as Indonesia prepares to host the M7 World Championship in Jakarta later this year.

Since 2017, MPL Indonesia has grown from Indonesia's first professional MLBB league into one of the world's most watched esports competitions. Now in its seventh year, the league's legacy of rivalries and triumphs faces its toughest test: proving Indonesia's dominance before the world arrives for M7. The next few months will decide which team will rise to represent Indonesia on home soil, with the opportunity to defend the nation's reputation as the true home of MLBB.

The Regular Season will run from 22 August to 19 October 2025 at the MPL Arena in Tanjung Duren, Jakarta, where nine of the nation's best teams will fight for their place on the Road to M7.

A legacy of milestones

Season 15 reaffirmed MPL Indonesia's status as the pinnacle of mobile esports leagues. The Grand Finals drew a record-breaking 4.1 million peak concurrent viewers across platforms, according to Esports Charts. The highest in the league's history. In fact, MPL Indonesia has consistently been one of the most watched tournaments in global esports. The achievement reflects both the unmatched competitiveness of the league and the deep-rooted connection between MLBB and the Indonesian community.

From the inaugural championship run of Team NXL in 2018 to ONIC's recent dominance, MPL Indonesia has produced some of the most memorable moments in MLBB history. Indonesian teams have consistently performed on the international stage, with world titles and deep tournament runs that have solidified the country's status as a global powerhouse. This year, that history becomes a benchmark for the next generation to live up to.

New teams, same rivalries

MPL Indonesia Season 16 kicks off with rosters rebuilt for one purpose: to qualify for M7. Every team has doubled down on assembling the strongest line-up possible, blending fresh talent with battle-tested veterans.

ONIC ID (ONIC) has made the biggest statement of the off-season. Already the league's strongest roster last year with rising star Clayton "Savero" Kuswanto, they have now added Schevenko "Skylar" Tendean in a mega transfer that has sent shockwaves through the scene. With his championship pedigree and ability to perform under pressure, Skylar turns ONIC into a true super team. This lineup was also crowned the MPL Indonesia Dream Team in Season 13, making ONIC's ambitions for international redemption unmistakable.

RRQ Hoshi has taken a different path, betting on youth to revive their legacy after a disappointing MSC 2025. EXP laner Muhammad "Rezzz" Kurniawan and rookie jungler Ilyas "Zunesh" Prasetyo will face a baptism of fire as they fight to prove they can shoulder national expectations on the world stage.

Season 16 is set up as a clash of eras, with seasoned veterans testing their experience against a new wave of fearless rookies. Every match will be a step toward the ultimate prize: the chance to represent Indonesia at M7.

This season's challengers are:

  1. Alter Ego Esports

  2. Bigetron Esports

  3. DEWA United Esports

  4. EVOS

  5. Geek Fam

  6. NAVI

  7. ONIC ID

  8. RRQ Hoshi

  9. Team Liquid ID

Esports at Indonesia's heart

Beyond the arena, MPL Indonesia remains a cultural touchstone, drawing millions of viewers across the globe and launching the careers of world champions across Indonesia. Season 16 of MPL Indonesia is powered by MOONTON Games in collaboration with the Indonesian Esports Central Board (PBESI). This season is presented by Samsung Galaxy as the Official Tournament Smartphone, with GoPay as the Official E-Wallet. Head & Shoulders returns as an Official Sponsor, and Good Day fuels the action as the Official Coffee.

When the M7 World Championship lands in Jakarta this January, it will be more than a tournament. It will be a showcase of Indonesia's place at the heart of global esports.
