The Vice President of Indonesia, Gibran Rakabuming Raka, received representatives from international game developer and publisher MOONTON Games, alongside Indonesian esports athletes, at the Vice Presidential Palace in Central Jakarta on Monday (2 March). The meeting reaffirmed the Indonesian government's continued support for the growth of the national esports ecosystem and the development of young digital talent.
The discussion highlighted how esports has evolved into a major component of Indonesia's digital and creative economy, creating new career opportunities while strengthening the country's presence on the global competitive stage.
During the meeting, the Vice President emphasised the importance of strengthening the esports ecosystem through talent development, industry collaboration, and the cultivation of professional digital athletes.
According to Kenny Deo, coach of Alter Ego Esports, the Vice President expressed strong support for initiatives that nurture young talent and expand opportunities within the industry. The discussion also emphasised the importance of building a broader public understanding that esports is not merely entertainment, but a fast-growing professional industry that contributes to Indonesia's digital economy and international competitiveness.
Government support for esports has continued to grow alongside the rapid rise of competitive gaming in Indonesia. Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB), one of the world's most widely played mobile esports titles, has become a major pillar of this ecosystem, with Indonesia hosting major international competitions and producing world-class professional teams.
In January 2026, Jakarta hosted the M7 World Championship, the flagship global tournament for MLBB esports. The event brought together teams from across the world and drew more than 5.68 million Peak Concurrent Viewers (PCV), according to Esports Charts, making it the most-watched mobile esports tournament in history and reinforcing Indonesia's position as one of the world's leading esports markets.
Cherry Xia, Vice President and Head of Publishing and Esports at MOONTON Games, welcomed the Vice President's support for the growth of esports and the gaming industry in Indonesia. "The Vice President shared that he is grateful and excited to see how MLBB and the gaming industry are growing very well in Indonesia. He also expressed his hope that we can have more collaborations in the future and see programs not only in Jakarta, but expanding to other regions across Indonesia".
Cherry added that Indonesia has long been a core market for MOONTON Games and will continue to play an important role in the company's global ecosystem. She said, "MOONTON Games has been in the Indonesian market for over 10 years, and this year we will celebrate MLBB's 10th anniversary. We hope we can continue to grow and collaborate with local partners more deeply in the future. For us, we see ourselves as more than a game company. We feel we have a responsibility to help grow the gaming industry and the internet industry in Indonesia".

Beyond competition, MOONTON Games has also worked with local partners and communities to support social initiatives and grassroots engagement in Indonesia. This year, during the month of Ramadan, the company launched its largest 'Golden Month' charity initiative, which aims to raise IDR 200 million to support children battling cancer and underprivileged youth through community participation and in-game activities.
As Indonesia continues to strengthen its position as one of the world's largest gaming markets, the collaboration between government institutions and industry players is expected to play an important role in building a sustainable esports ecosystem and nurturing future digital athletes.
