The Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Professional League (MPL) Malaysia returns for Season 18 on 14 August 2026, with the eight teams entering the race for the MPL Malaysia trophy. As the country's largest and longest-running professional esports league, MPL Malaysia also enters its second season under the Partnership Programme. Built around the eight partner teams, the programme aims to strengthen the local esports ecosystem beyond the competitive stage.
Season 18 arrives following a striking reversal of expectations at the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) Mid Season Cup (MSC) at 2026 Esports World Cup (EWC) in Paris. Season 17 runners-up Team Vamos (VMS) delivered Malaysia's strongest performance at the tournament with a breakthrough Group Stage run. Meanwhile, five-peat MPL Malaysia winners and inaugural MSC at EWC champions, Selangor Red Giants (SRG), crashed out before the Knockout Stage at the hands of teams from emerging regions. These contrasting results reflect the growing competitive depth of MLBB Esports as competitive pathways expand across regions, validating MLBB's international expansion strategy. Back home, these results give rising challengers renewed confidence and set the stage for one of the most open title races in the history of MPL Malaysia.
Against this backdrop, Season 18 unfolds under the theme "8 Cerita" (Eight Stories), bringing together eight teams on eight distinct journeys towards one destination—the CelcomDigi Dream Stage. With every contender having a credible path to the title, fans, and communities have a story to follow, celebrate, and rally behind from the opening week to the Grand Finals.
Krystal Tan, Head of Market (Esports) at MOONTON Games, said: "The results from MSC at EWC showed that the competitive gap has closed and no team's dominance can be taken for granted. That reality carries into Season 18, which opens as the strongest and most contested season in MPL Malaysia history. Every one of the eight teams enters as a genuine title contender, giving every fan a journey to believe in and follow through to the end. As MLBB marks its 10th anniversary, the strength of this field reflects how far the competitive scene has come and signals a new chapter for Malaysian esports."
From Malaysia to the World
MPL Malaysia Season 18 kicks off with the Regular Season from 14 August to 18 October 2026 at the MPL MY Arena, Level 6, Quill City Mall Convention Centre, Kuala Lumpur. Across eight weeks of competition, eight teams will battle for a place in the Playoffs and the opportunity to compete on the CelcomDigi Dream Stage. The top two teams will represent Malaysia at the M8 World Championship (M8) in Istanbul, Türkiye, the M Series' first edition in Europe.
This season also opens a new road to M8. Through the newly unveiled MLBB Championship Tour Southeast Asia (MCT SEA), the top team from MLBB Academy League Malaysia (MAL MY) will compete against the top teams from the MLBB Development League (MDL) Philippines and MDL Indonesia for a place in the MCT SEA Knockout Playoffs—and a shot at M8. MCT SEA also establishes Southeast Asia as the third regional chapter in MLBB Esports' five-region global strategy, connecting more aspiring teams with the world stage.
