Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) Philippines Esports gears up for the second half of 2026 with a strengthened competitive roadmap that connects the country's established champions and rising talents to Southeast Asia and the world. As MLBB celebrates its 10th anniversary, the Philippines enters a pivotal period in MLBB Esports' globalisation.
Following the introduction of MLBB Esports' five-region expansion strategy, the Asian Games debut, and the announcement of the MLBB SEA Championship Tour (MCT SEA), MLBB Philippines Esports is set to open opportunities for Filipino teams across its professional and open leagues.
The Philippines' road to the M8 begins
The MLBB Professional League Philippines (MPL PH) Season 18 begins today, 21 August, at Victoria Sports Tower in Quezon City. Carrying the theme "Palag Na 'To," the season will determine the Philippine representatives for the M8 World Championship (M8), where the country's best teams will once again compete on the global stage.
The MPL PH Season 18 Regular Season runs until 11 October 2026, with eight weeks of competition among the country's top MLBB teams. Season 18 opens with marquee matchups between M7 World Champions Aurora Gaming and ONIC Philippines, and last season's finalists Team Liquid Philippines and Team Falcons.
Season 18 also welcomes Filipino champions back to the Home of the Champions. Angelo "Pheww" Arcangel returns as coach of ONIC Philippines after winning on the world stage as a player, bringing his experience to a new generation of competitors. Tickets are available via https://ph-mpl.com/tickets.
Alongside MPL PH, MLBB Development League Philippines (MDL PH) will play an expanded role in the country's competitive ecosystem. As the development league for the next generation of Filipino MLBB talent, MDL PH gives aspiring professional teams the opportunity to develop, compete, and establish themselves on the domestic stage.
Together, MPL PH and MDL Philippines reflect a connected MLBB Philippines Esports ecosystem: MPL PH continues to showcase the country's top professional teams on the road to M8, while MDL PH develops the next wave of Filipino competitors.
Lee Viloria, Head of Business Development and Partnerships, Esports, Philippines, at MOONTON Games, said, "MLBB Esports has entered a new era of globalisation, and the Philippines has a unique role to play in it. We are not simply bringing the legacy of a champion nation to the world stage. We are building an ecosystem that connects Filipino talent from local competition to Southeast Asia, and ultimately to the global stage. MPL PH will continue to set the standard on the road to M8. Through MCT SEA, MDL PH now becomes part of a wider regional pathway, giving emerging teams the opportunity to earn their place against Southeast Asia's best and compete within MLBB Esports' global framework. As MLBB marks its 10th anniversary, our ambition is to ensure that the Philippines remains not only the Home of the Champions, but a leading force in shaping what the next decade of global MLBB Esports looks like."

Carlos Yulo, Double Olympic gold medalist and avid MLBB gamer, said: "Yung ipinaglalaban ng esports athletes natin, [alam ko na] siyempre, tayong mga Pilipino, hindi tayo patatalo sa ibang countries. Gusto nating ibigay [yung] best natin, especially sa esports. Sobrang competitive natin. Mabigat na responsibility ito for all athletes. Before, akala ko sarili ko lang din—na individual lang ako na nandoon. Pero after that, na-experience at na-realise ko na it's not all about me; it's about my country. Maraming sumusuporta sa atin at maraming nagdadasal para sa atin. Marami talagang Pilipino na mahusay sa kahit anong larangan."
("What our esports athletes are fighting for—I know that, of course, as Filipinos, we do not want to be outdone by other countries. We want to give [our] best, especially in esports. We are highly competitive. For me, this is a heavy responsibility for all athletes. Before, I thought it was only about myself—I thought I was just there as an individual. But after that, I experienced and realized that it’s not all about me; it’s about my country. Many people support us and pray for us. There are many Filipinos who are truly excellent in every field.")
MCT SEA: A new unified pathway to the M8 for open league players
The MCT SEA creates a new opportunity for more Southeast Asian teams to earn a place in the M8, strengthening the region's journey from domestic competition to the global stage. MPL PH remains the country's premier professional stage and its route to M8. The MCT SEA, meanwhile, gives MDL Philippines a new regional objective beyond the domestic development league. The MDL Philippines champion will compete alongside the champions of MDL Indonesia and MAL Malaysia for one place in the MCT SEA Knockout Playoffs Stage.
Only one (1) Open League Qualifier Group champion will advance from this group to face national champions and leading contenders from across Southeast Asia. The format ensures that a potential M8 berth is earned at every stage from the domestic MDL circuit to the regional championship and global qualification race.

Jon Arvin "Fuego" Tenoria, owner of MDL Philippines Team Fuego, said: "MCT SEA is a great opportunity for players to compete eventually on the international stage. Previously, joining MDL Philippines could lead to a transfer to the professional league, while winning the local MDL title was already seen as the ultimate goal. With MCT SEA, players now have a more unified pathway to advance from the national level to regional and global competition, including the M8. This is what we aspire to build for our players, and it gives them greater motivation to keep progressing."
MCT SEA also reinforces MDL Philippines' role in developing the country's next generation of professional talent. To preserve the integrity of that pathway, affiliated MPL teams may transfer up to three MPL players to their MDL roster per season, while no more than two MPL players may be fielded in an active five-player lineup in a match. Promotions from MDL to MPL remain unrestricted.
10 years of making an impact
MPL PH Season 18 arrives during MLBB's 10th anniversary year, making the season a celebration not only of competition, but also of the Filipino communities that have helped shape the game's growth over the past decade.
From players and fans to creators, campus communities, and esports professionals, MLBB has created a shared space for Filipinos to connect, compete, and build new opportunities around the game and entertainment. As MLBB Philippines Esports looks ahead to its next chapter, Season 18 recognises the people and communities whose passion has made the Philippines one of MLBB's most important homes.
This season is supported by Official Sponsors Infinix, Smart, and Visa; Partners in Esports Clear Men and Joytify; and Strategic Partners TT Racing, China Airlines, SIP, and Fairrie. The addition of Visa and China Airlines reflects the continued growth of MPL PH and the wider MLBB Philippines Esports ecosystem, bringing more brands into a platform shaped by one of the country's most engaged gaming communities.
The commitment goes beyond competition and into building the next generation of industry talent. Now in its fifth season, Smart Battle Trips brings students and young fans closer to the esports industry through expert-led sessions on broadcasting, journalism, event and team management, and content creation. By introducing young Filipinos to the range of careers behind esports, the programme helps develop the people and professions that will shape its future.
Fans can also look forward to the return of the MPL Playground, which transforms the onsite experience into an immersive fan zone with interactive activities from MPL PH's brand partners. Community-led initiatives, including Infinix FANSIKLABAN, will give fans the chance to take the stage in an onsite showdown while representing their favourite teams.
